The past couple of months have been difficult for thousands of couples who have had to postpone their weddings due to the current situation, but we remain optimistic that we will all have the weddings of our dreams when this is all over!

Whether you had to postpone your wedding or are looking for advice and inspiration during this time, we recommend reading the following Q&A with Weddings Manager, Abraham Amezquita, from Barceló Maya Grand Resort for some positive words of wisdom and wedding advice!

Q: How is Barcelo inspiring people at home during this time?

We have been very active on our social media networks, inviting agents and commercial partners to learn more about our property and share our knowledge so that they can become experts, as well as calling our brides when they need it so that the trust they have for our team grows and they feel confident during this uncertain time.

Q: How do you think this pandemic will change the destination wedding industry?

A lot! This will change the way we organize events, the way of interaction, the set-ups, the food, and the timing. Everything will have to change and we will need to reinvent.

Q: We love Barceló's current hashtag #WeWillTravelAgain. What destination are you thinking of visiting when we can all travel again?

I think my hometown, where my family lives, to visit my relatives.

Q: For couples who are going through cancellations or post-poning their weddings right now, what would be the best advice you can give them at this time?

Faith. Better times will come. Postpone, continue with your dream and our team will help you and make it possible.

Q: In your opinion, where is the best spot to have a wedding in the new Barceló Maya Riviera?

The beach is the best spot in the property. It is just amazing.

Q: What was the most unique wedding you ever planned?

All of them are special and unique, but I will say personally I love south Asian weddings. The traditions, the outfits, and the meaning is something to remember.

Q: What are the benefits/pros of having a destination wedding over a local wedding at home?

The reunion of the whole family and friends you have not seeing in a while, the budget, and the celebrations is not just one day – every day is a memorable event.

Q: What are the top 3 things couples should consider before planning a destination wedding?

Number of guests, travel restrictions for country and guest, and the wedding place of course, and how affordable are the expenses for their guest.

Q: What advice would you give aspiring wedding planners and managers?

Make sure you have time to love our profession and time to adapt and rethink. We have the advantage and the love never stops or never dies.
