Q&A: Karen's Top 3 Dream Destinations for 2020
There are many things we love about the holidays: spending quality time with our loved ones, eating a lot of food (and not feeling bad about it), and of course, drinking lots of champagne! But the holidays are also a great time to reflect on the past year and look forward to the new year. In our case, planning where to travel to next!
In this Q&A, MyWeddingAway.com’s owner, Karen Lantigua, shares her top 3 dream destinations for 2020. We hope this inspires you to start thinking about your travel plans for the new year as well!
Q: What are your top 3 dream destinations for 2020?
A: Riviera Maya, Punta Cana, and Bahamas.
Q: What are you looking forward to seeing the most in each destination?
A: Riviera Maya - RIO Secreto, located near Playa del Carmen. Here, you can observe natural history dating back millions of years. You can hike and swim through a route of about 1 km full of beautiful stalactites and stalamites and visit an underground cave with some of the most dramatic mineral formations in the world.
Punta Cana - I would book a Wellness Relax Et Detox Cruise through our friends at Remmy Travel, a sailing spa with massages and a Dr. Fish foot exfoliation. All this with while enjoying sailing on turquoise waters of Punta Cana. After a relaxing day, I would pick up the energy and hit COCO Bongo nightclub to dance the night away.
Bahamas - Flights to Freeport Bahamas are starting to resume after the devastation of Hurricane Dorian, so I would go on vacation there. This is one of the best ways to help recovery efforts. It's all about the beaches in the Bahamas. Some of the most spectacular clear water I have ever seen where you can snorkel and dive - both activities would be on my top lists for sure. I would also enjoy a Goombay Smash Cocktail and some Conch Fritters. Yum!
Q: Have you researched where to stay in each destination? If so, where?
A: Riviera Maya - I would stay at the brand new adults only Barceló Maya Riviera, a sleek, new luxury 5-star resort with 2 km of white sand beach, a 32,000 sq. ft. spa and fitness centre, and 5 amazing al a la carte restaurants. Not only that, you get access to all the restaurants and facilities at the Barceló Maya Grand resort complex.
Punta Cana - I would stay at the 5-star Iberostar Selection Bávaro. Besides being a beautifully renovated property right on the famous Bávaro beach, Iberostar is leading the way in responsible tourism with no single use plastics, a coral breeding laboratory, and a responsible approach to fish consumption (mainly lobster). An 18-hole golf course and a great kids club are other reasons why I will be visiting this hotel.
Bahamas - VivaWyndham Fortuna Beach is one of the first hotels to open after hurricane Dorian. With clean and fresh renovated rooms, this property is laid back and situated alongside 1200 meters of white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Lots of activities to keep you active or just enjoy the chill vibe. You'll never feel crowded at this resort.
Q: What do you think would be the most romantic thing to do at any of these destinations?
A: Ohh tough one, but I am going to go with learning to dance Merengue with your significant other... and then practicing those sultry moves on the dance floor. Sure to get the romance flowing!
Bonus question: Since New Years is just around the corner, what are some of your goals or new years resolutions (if any)?
A: Practicing gratitude daily is my new years resolution. I do it now, but I would like to make it a consistent daily practice. We have so much to be grateful for and I believe staying in this mindset is good for your health and those around you benefit too.
